REIKI IS AN ANCIENT AND ESOTERIC HEALING ART THAT ORIGINATED

FROM THE BUDDHIST HEALERS IN TIBET AND WAS GIVEN TO THE

JAPANESE THROUGH DR.  MIKAO USUI.  HENCE THE NAME

AND TRADITION OF "USUI REIKI".

Legend has it that the Tibetan Buddhists during a war needed healers

and had none, so they used their hands!  Many years later in modem Japan,

Dr. Usui, after having studied and researched spiritual traditions for many

came across REHU symbols in ancient Buddhist texts.  He got the transmission

of energy after 21 days of meditative retreat.  He then passed this on to Dr.

Chujiro Hayashi with whom he practiced medicine in a Tokyo hospital.  From

Dr. Hayashi the third Master, Hawayo Takata received Reiki.  Mrs. Takata

went to Japan from her Hawaiian Islands home to have an operation.

Instead of having the operation immediately, she tried Reiki first.  Her "meeting"

with Reiki lasted her whole life.  She stayed in Tokyo, studied and learned

Reiki and became the third master in 1976.  Later, Mrs. Takata gave her

grand child, Phyllis Lei Furumoto, her first Reiki atonement when Phyllis

was a child.  Phyllis subsequently studied with her grandmother and in 1980

became a Reiki Master.  Later she founded the Reiki Alliance with 21 Reiki

Masters and gave her blessing to a wide diffusion of Reiki teachings.

And on the tradition goes....

Rei Ki means simply Universal Energy.  With the Attunements by the

Reiki Master, a meditative person becomes attuned to the energy and

then acts as a channel her/himself.  Channeling this energy helps heal

oneself and one another.  Channeling energy helps move blocks and balance

a person's energy system.  The Art of Healing is not so much about technique

as it is about raising one's own vibration, becoming lighter and letting

healing energy through oneself.

Reiki roots are in Tibetan Buddhism and are thus connected to the "guide"

Vajrapanna.  Vajrapanna is a dark blue colored Buddha and carries a sword.

The sword of Vajrapanna is to cut through negative energies within ourselves

and when we work with others.  It is the "healing sword".
